Case Study #1
A recent investigation by a Boise PD ICAC investigator has identified two more victims that were sexually abused by their father. This man had been investigated in Arizona, and the case was closed because of a lack of evidence. Because of an unrelated ICAC investigation in Utah concerning this defendant evidence was found that allowed investigators in Arizona obtain an arrest warrant for the crime of sexually abusing his two daughters!
Case Study #2
In September of 2011 investigators from various law enforcement agencies in the Treasure Valley executed a search warrant in Mountain Home, ID for a person suspected of downloading and distributing child pornography. During the subsequent investigation a male adult was found to be responsible for downloading the child pornography. Additionally, investigators learned that the suspect was sexually abusing a 5 year old boy dozens of times while a 3 year old female child was present. Many times the abuse was photographed by the suspect.
How Does This Happen
In the example of case #2 the suspect gained access to the victims by befriending the family of the victims, and would regularly spend time with the children and offer his “babysitting services.” The suspect was allowed to take the children fishing and other places where he had complete access to the victims. His method of convincing the children to let the sexual abuse occur and not report it: he told the children they could play games on his iPad.
These children had not reported this abuse to anyone. Most likely the abuse would have continued well into the future had not investigators been able to intervene and rescue these children.
